Game 82: Orioles at Rangers

The O’s salvaged a game in their series against the Braves yesterday with some late heroics (and Nick Markakis going 5/5 at the plate).  They travel today for an Independence Day game against the Rangers in Arlington.

Rangers:

Batting Fielding fWAR
Ian Kinsler .241/.359/.433 6 3.5
Elvis Andrus .275/.326/.341 4 2.4
Josh Hamilton .295/.357/.542 -1 1.6
Adrian Beltre .271/.317/.470 8 2.9
Michael Young .312/.348/.462 -4 1.4
Nelson Cruz .245/.296/.545 -2 1.3
David Murphy .233/.308/.324 -2 -0.3
Yorvit Torrealba .255/.289/.368 -1 0.4
Endy Chavez .307/.351/.489 1 0.9

A very strong lineup (you can see why they’re one of the best teams in the majors) from top to bottom.  The fact that they can bat someone like Nelson Cruz 6th shows the talent that the Rangers have hitting wise.

Colby Lewis:

ERA FIP xFIP K/9 BB/9 GB% fWAR
4.32 4.82 4.05 7.5 2.4 31.4% 0.5

Lewis enters today’s game with a 7-7 record and comes off of a quality start in his last outing against the Rangers.  His numbers are decent at best, though he does have a good K:BB ratio.

Throws a decent variety of pitches, though is not overpowering by any means.  Gets a good amount of whiffs because of his ability to hit spots and the good movement on his pitches.

Orioles:

Batting Fielding fWAR
J.J. Hardy .295/.356/.514 -3 1.8
Nick Markakis .296/.343/.391 0 1.3
Adam Jones .283/.325/.463 -10 1.4
Vladimir Guerrero .277/.307/.377 0 -0.2
Mark Reynolds .229/.354/.492 -17 0.8
Matt Wieters .262/.315/.397 5 2.0
Derrek Lee .240/.302/.352 3 0.1
Nolan Reimold .275/.377/.529 -1 0.4
Blake Davis .286/.400/.381 -1 0.1

The O’s drop Lee to 7th in the lineup, bring in Reimold, and keep Reynolds up in the lineup (was 4th yesterday and hit a home run).  Davis continues to get good playing time at 2B as he continues to play pretty well.  And Nick Markakis, after catching fire as of late, brings his average to within 4 points of .300.

Chris Jakubauskas:

ERA FIP xFIP K/9 BB/9 GB% fWAR
5.68 4.92 4.64 5.9 4.3 38.1% 0.1

Jakubauskas has not been very effective this year.  He was decent in his first start, but since then he’s been very spotty.  He gave up five runs while walking three in his last outing against the Cardinals.

Only has three pitches in his arsenal, which could be one reason why he isn’t very effective.
