- Adam Jones hit his 13th home run of the year, tying him for the team lead (also walked). Nick Markakis hit his 6th (also singled). Matt Wieters his 7th (also threw out another potential basestealer). JJ Hardy his 10th (also singled).
- Mark Reynolds walked twice (also stole a base), giving him 46 free passes on the year. That’s easily most on the team. Tied for second are Markakis and Scott, with 22 each.
- I was hoping to see some signs of improvement from Brian Matusz, but they weren’t really there. He almost touched 90 in the first inning, but ended up averaging under 88 mph with the fastball. That makes it hard (but not impossible) to be effective in the big leagues. I’m not sure the team can keep running Matusz out there like this. Final line’ 4.2 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 3 HR (two to lefty Joey Votto).
- Brad Bergesen wasn’t great either, giving up a couple home runs in relief. The 3 walks in 3 IP didn’t help matters.
Almost every run in this game came via the longball. The Reds had more homers (5-4) and had more runners on when they went yard. Thus, 10-5.
