Game 67: Orioles at Nationals

The Orioles snapped a 4-game losing streak with a victory over the Blue Jays yesterday.  They start this edition of the Beltway series in Washington looking to continue their winning streak.

Nationals:

Batting Fielding fWAR
Jayson Werth .240/.340/.426 -2 1.9
Ian Desmond .235/.273/.336 2 0.8
Ryan Zimmerman .302/.404/.442 1 -0.4
Michael Morse .311/.355/.560 -3 0.1
Danny Espinosa .233/.321/.463 5 2.1
Wilson Ramos .248/.319/.406 3 1.0
Jerry Hairston .233/.298/.326 -4 -1.7
Jason Marquis .258/.258/.290 0 -0.1
Roger Bernadina .267/.327/.363 -5 0.6

A decently strong lineup from the Nationals, Michael Morse has been absolutely on fire.  Tough to pitch around him and Zimmerman.

Jason Marquis:

ERA FIP xFIP K/9 BB/9 GB% fWAR
3.67 3.76 3.86 5.2 2.6 51.5% 1.1

Marquis enters today with a 7-2 record and some pretty good numbers.  Also has a good K:BB ratio as well.

Good mixture of pitches, though not extremely overpowering.  Uses that sinker as a primary pitch and the change-up to complement it, very similarly to what Britton does.

Orioles:

Batting Fielding fWAR
J.J. Hardy .299/.366/.514 1 -2.0
Adam Jones .286/.326/.452 -6 1.9
Nick Markakis .250/.311/.328 2 0.9
Matt Wieters .275/.329/.412 3 0.0
Luke Scott .251/.330/.450 0 -1.6
Derrek Lee .214/.287/.310 1 -1.0
Mark Reynolds .206/.328/.435 -11 -0.3
Robert Andino .253/.337/.312 3 -2.0
Zach Britton .000/.000/.000 0 0.0

Vlad is out of the lineup because of the no DH NL rule, so Britton will get his first ML at bats.  Hardy looks to continue his hot streak, as his average nears .300.

Zach Britton:

ERA FIP xFIP K/9 BB/9 GB% fWAR
3.18 3.98 3.90 5.2 3.2 53.8% 1.2

Britton comes in sporting a 6-4 record and an ERA just above 3.00.  His numbers are good except his walks are a tad bit high.  It would be perfect if he could lower that BB/9 to just below 3.

The change-up and two-seamer complement each other very well and his slider has great break (though he doesn’t use it a large amount of the time).
