Game 50: Orioles at Athletics

Tough loss for the O’s yesterday, as they could muster little offense against the rough A’s pitching staff.

Athletics:

Batting Fielding fWAR
Coco Crisp .269/.297/.406 0 0.1
Daric Barton .206/.319/.269 -2 -1.0
David DeJesus .258/.330/.405 -5 0.1
Josh Willingham .229/.313/.401 -6 -0.5
Hideki Matsui .230/.279/.355 0 -1.0
Kurt Suzuki .252/.320/.377 1 -0.1
Mark Ellis .205/.239/.275 3 0.4
Kevin Kouzmanoff .198/.238/.333 -1 -0.3
Cliff Pennington .252/.305/.333 -4 -0.6

Again, the A’s lineup is not very impressive hitting-wise.  You can see pretty easily why they score so few runs per game.

Josh Outman:

ERA FIP xFIP K/9 BB/9 GB% fWAR
1.29 3.62 5.57 2.6 3.9 31.6% 0.1

Josh Outman makes only his second MLB start tonight against the O’s.  He walked more than he K’ed in his first start, let’s see if he’s going to change that tonight.

Only one start for Outman, so not much to base the graph off of.  Has a decent fastball and what appears to be a pretty good slider.

Orioles:

Batting Fielding fWAR
Robert Andino .268/.366/.330 1 -1.8
Adam Jones .293/.337/.459 0 1.8
Nick Markakis .258/.324/.340 -4 1.1
Vladimir Guerrero .302/.325/.427 0 0.6
Nolan Reimold .545/.583/1.455 0 0.0
J.J. Hardy .243/.329/.392 1 -2.5
Mark Reynolds .200/.305/.381 -7 -0.1
Ryan Adams .143/.250/.143 -1 0.2
Craig Tatum .250/.250/.250 0 0.0

Not much different from the O’s lineup, though Matt Wieters takes a rest and Tatum gets the call.  Also, Reynolds’ AVG is back up to .200 (probably not for long).

Brad Bergesen:

ERA FIP xFIP K/9 BB/9 GB% fWAR
5.64 3.91 4.48 5.2 2.6 36.4% 0.6

Bergy gets the start tonight looking to improve on that one win so far this year.  He has a decent 2:1 K:BB ratio but needs to keep the ball in the yard tonight if he wants to get that win.

Less and less whiffs as the season goes on, Bergy just needs to work on his location if he wants to get better and become a better MLB pitcher.
