Game 46: Orioles vs. Royals

The Orioles enter today’s game against the Royals riding a two-game win streak and an off day yesterday.  The Orioles now start a stretch of games where 18 of their next 27 games are against teams outside of the AL East.  The Orioles are 14-12 against teams outside of the AL East, so hopefully they can finally turn it on over this upcoming stretch.

Alex Gordon .280/.343/.462 1 2.4
Melky Cabrera .271/.305/.441 -2 2.7
Eric Hosmer .288/.348/.525 -1 -0.5
Jeff Francoeur .282/.337/.523 5 -0.5
Billy Butler .284/.391/.426 0 -0.3
Wilson Betemit .315/.379/.465 -1 -1.3
Mike Aviles .242/.275/.447 2 -0.1
Brayan Pena .206/.284/.317 0 -0.1
Alcides Escobar .232/.266/.274 4 -0.2

A good Royals lineup that has kept them hanging around in the AL Central (22-24) even though the Indians are on a torrid pace.  Alex Gordon continues to play well, showing he’s finally up to the Major League task.

Danny Duffy:

4.50 5.40 5.69 9.0 13.5 50.0% 0.0

Duffy makes only his second Major League start (hence his rather inflated numbers), where he pitched decently well in his first outing (only threw 4 IP because of control problems–6 BB–but only two runs).

Again, he only has one outing so his pitching chart was a little askew, showing he is mainly a fastball pitcher (look for more pitches to show up with higher percentages as the season progresses).  He has relatively good swing-and-miss stuff and bringing a 94 MPH fastball to the table always helps.

Batting Fielding fWAR
Robert Andino .264/.366/.322 1 -1.8
Adam Jones .289/.337/.440 0 1.8
Nick Markakis .260/.327/.348 -4 1.1
Vladimir Guerrero .309/.333/.444 0 0.6
Matt Wieters .273/.342/.410 2 0.0
Nolan Reimold .400/.400/1.000 0 0.0
Mark Reynolds .196/.305/.372 -7 -0.1
J.J. Hardy .219/.292/.359 1 -2.5
Brandon Snyder .286/.444/.429 -1 0.0

With no timetable on the return of Brian Roberts, Andino gets the start at 2B.  Reimold is also back in the lineup, as is Snyder (with Lee out).  Hopefully the O’s can continue to hit the ball well; the O’s have recorded 10 or more hits in 10 of their past 12 games.

Zach Britton:

2.14 3.63 3.74 5.0 2.9 55.6% 1.0

Britton has been the hard-luck starter for the O’s his last two times out, allowing three runners to reach second base in those two starts (16 IP), but has two no-decisions.  Probably should be 7-2 right now, hopefully the offense can help out Zach tonight for a victory.

A fantastic sinker/two-seamer especially when mixed in with his change-up.  His slider is also decent (not used as much though).
