2010 Orioles Projections
Quoting from Tom Tango’s Fan Scouting Report Project:
“Baseball’s fans are very perceptive. Take a large group of them, and they can pick out the final standings with the best of them. They can forecast the performance of players as well as those guys with rather sophisticated forecasting engines. Bill James, in one of his later Abstracts, had the fans vote in for the ranking of the best to worst players by position. And they did a darn good job…
What I would like to do now is tap that pool of talent.“
Instead of using it to rate players just defensively, I’d like your input on how the Orioles players will preform in 2010. Click on any player’s name (or “Add New Player” at the bottom if you’re guy isn’t listed – for example, minor leaguers that you think will be called up later in the year), and you’ll be taken to a form where you can fill out the player’s name, playing time (number of plate appearances for position players or innings pitched for pitchers), production (BA/OBP/SLG for position players or ERA for pitchers), position(s), defense (on a -15 to +15 scale), and baserunning (on a -5 to +5 scale). Those last two aren’t needed for pitchers, obviously. I’ll be adding/subtracting players as the Orioles make various moves during the off-season, but I wanted to get this up early so it’s available. You can fill out all or part of the form, and you don’t need to stick to the formats for some of the sections as specified if you don’t want to. Best guesses are more than acceptable, and thank you very much for the help.
