Spring Training Game 17: Orioles vs Pirates

Brad Bergesen will try to carry forward the O’s pitching success from yesterday against Pittsburgh.

The Good:

* Bergy K’ed 4 in his 4.4 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk. The 2 groundouts to 7 flyouts seems odd though.

* Felix Pie picked up a couple hits and stole a base batting lead-off.

* Adam Jones walked twice, and struck out. I don’t mind the K’s if it means he’s working deeper into counts.

* Luke Scott went yard, and got some more work in at first-base.

* Luck: the pen allowed 6 hits and walked 2 in 4.1 IP, but kept the Pirates off the board.

The Bad:

* The pen allowed 6 hits and walked 2 in 4.1 IP.

* Only 10 baserunners for the offense (6 H, 4 BB). I guess it’s also bad that scoring 5 runs seems like a lot to me at this point.

The Final:

The pitching wasn’t as dominant as yesterday, but it was good enough for the O’s to pick up the 5-2 victory and improve to 7-10 on the Spring. The B-team lost to Boston today (6-0), though Chris Tillman was solid (5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR, and 9 groundouts to 6 flyouts) and Cla Meredith had another scoreless inning (though his perfect steak was snapped by a couple hits).
