Just a couple of quick things today, while wishing you all a very happy Independence Day.
(1) Brian Matusz pitched a gem in Boston – 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 8 K – as the O’s beat the Sox 6-1. What a welcome sight that was; in between Saturday’s drubbing, the Birds got a couple of very nice pitching performances from Matusz and Brad Bergesen in hostile territory (even though they lost 2 of 3).
(2) More specific details forthcoming, but I just wanted to let you all know that me and 29 very good writers have put together a Trade Deadline Primer that’ll be available soon via e-book. It’ll have things like player report cards, who’s likely to get traded, the positions of need for the team, a look back at the first half of the season, and an essay on how things look for 2012 (when the team should be ready to contend) – the base of players already here, how they will need to perform, and what kinds of holes still need to be filled. And while the version I’ll be providing will be Orioles-centric (of course), you’ll get great info on all 30 clubs. I was really excited to asked to contribute, and I tried to keep things light on the stats so it won’t just be 10 pages of spreadsheets. A certain famous ESPN writer is even writing the forward.
