Jack Morris Wasn’t Better Than Kevin Appier

The Hall of Fame vote was announced today, with only Andre Dawson getting in. I didn’t support the Hawk on my ballot, but am not upset he got in. He now pretty much personifies the borderline for me. The Roberto Alomar didn’t get in, falling 1.3% short, caused a bit of an uproar. Bert Blyleven was at 74.2%, and both should make it next year. Barry Larkin (51.6%), Edgar Martinez (36.2%), Tim Raines (30.4%), Mark McGwire (23.7%), and Alan Trammell (22.4%) all should have gotten far more support. My post at MLB Notebook though, looks at a couple of pitchers on the ballot who the voters have widely varying opinions of despite some contrary evidence. Some excerpts of the Jack Morris vs. Kevin Appier smack-down are below; click through for the full version (including a graph!). —————————————————————————————————-
