Game 61: Orioles 1, Mets 5

The Good:

* Jeremy Guthrie pitched pretty well, only making one mistake on the day. That resulted in a three-run home run though, which pretty much sunk the team. Otherwise his line looked solid; 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 5 K.

* Nick Markakis had a “Nick Markakis day” with a walk, a single, and an opposite-field double.

The Bad:

* The O’s repeatedly got runners on base – including once loading the bases with no outs – but just couldn’t manage to get them across the plate. 11 hits (despite 12 K’s) and a walk, and their only run scores on a passed ball.

* The losing has really set in. On Twitter, people (including me) called things like the O’s not scoring in the above mentioned bases loaded situation and Wieters striking out right after pulling a ball just foul to miss and three-run home run.

The Final:

The Orioles couldn’t solve Dickey’s knuckler when they swung at it, and usually weren’t patient enough not to swing. O’s lose 5-1, and fall to 17-44 on the season.
