Game 40: Orioles 4, Royals 3

The Good:

* Millwood took a perfect game into the 5th, but ran into some trouble in that inning. Otherwise he was very good; 8 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 7 K.

* Man that Luke Scott guy sure is washed up. He’s been in a slump for a year now… he’s clearly done. In other news, Luke took defending Cy Young winner Zack Greinke deep – twice – and now has 9 home runs on the year. He also walked twice.

* Corey Patterson struck out twice against Greinke – including on 3 pitches to start the game – but then homered against a KC reliever to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th. Also drew a walk in the 10th. Corey isn’t half bad. It’s just that usually Korey shows up.

* Nick Markakis doubled, and then won the game in the bottom of the 10th with a bases loaded single (which would have been a double) over the center-fielder’s head.

The Bad:

* Ty Wigginton had some… adventures, in the field. Wasn’t charged with an error though.

* Non-Scott/Patterson/Markakis Orioles picked up 3 hits – singles by Wiggy, Jones, and Lugo – and that’s it.

The Final:

Didn’t expect to win this one with Greinke going for KC, but Millwood matched him pretty well and Scott was able to get to him, O’s end the skid at three with the 4-3 win, and go on the road at 13-27. No game preview tomorrow – taking a drive up to New York to pick my sister up from Cornell (we’re all so proud!). Maybe a game wrap if I get home early enough.
