* Corey Patterson; a bunt hit, a walk, a HBP, 2 stolen bases (and another base advanced on a throwing error), 3 runs scored. SparkPlug!
* Koji and Ohman pitched 2.2 combined perfect innings with a K each.
* Bergesen went to the slider early and often this one – using the pitch 39% of the time – which is confusing since I thought they had talked about how part of Bergy’s problem is that he using it too much and that his success came from utilizing the sinker more. Only 15 groundouts to 11 flyouts, and a final line of 6.2 IP, 10 H, 4 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 2 K. The sinker was sinking, but he didn’t really go to the change. Odd that they found a strategy that worked for two games and then went away from it.
* Offense had 13 baserunners – 10 hits and 3 walks – but all the hits were singles (a couple of the bunt variety) and one walk was intentional. Yesterday Westbrook looked really good; today the just didn’t hit off of Davies.
O’s mount a rally in the 9th, but can’t come back all the way. As soon as Bergesen gave up that 4th run I thought the game was going to be tough to win. Birds lose 4-3, dropping their third in a row and 27th on the season. No game preview tomorrow, but things don’t look good with Zack Greinke on the mound for KC. The O’s need to beat pitchers like Davies, because you can’t expect this offense to put runs on the board against a Cy Young winner right now.
