Game 38: Orioles 1, Indians 5

The Good:

* Luke Scott went 3-4 and broke up the shutout with a 9th inning opposite field home run.

* Matt Albers pitched 2.1 quality innings out of the pen, striking out a couple and giving up only a groundball single before getting pulled for a lefty.

The Bad:

* 9 hits – 8 singles – and just a single walk for the O’s offense, and they erased two of those runners with double plays. And they struck out 8 times, often chasing sliders out of the zone. Poor offensive showing.

* Alberto Castillo – just recalled to take the place of Rhyne Hughes on the roster – got a double play in relief of Albers, but then gave up a double off the scoreboard (that Markakis might have caught if he didn’t misjudge the height) and a home run over it (to a lefty).

The Final:

The O’s really needed to win yesterday’s game, since today’s match-up wasn’t a good one for them. Jake Westbrook kept the ball on the ground and shut down the Birds. Mark Hendrickson – making the start for an injured David Hernandez (we’ll see how that plays out going forward; it might just be the one missed start) – did a decent job but it wasn’t near good enough given the lack of support. O’s lose 5-1 and fall to 12-26 on the season.
